MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY’S REPORT 2008
I have now been in post as HOS membership Secretary for two years. The membership remains strong with steady growth over that time.
The membership figures are on the back of the Treasurer’s Report.
· As always, some members retired this year or simply failed to renew their memberships in spite of reminders: 39 memberships ended this year
· Recruitment continued, though at a slightly lower rate than last year: we recruited people to 67 new Memberships
· The combined result of these two changes is a year on year increase in memberships of 5% and total members of 5.5%
· This year the Society will publish a Handbook for the first time. It will be sent to members with their renewal letters in May and to new members as they join.

I would like to finish by thanking all those members who pay their dues on time and keep me informed about their changes of address, phone and email. Some of you even write appreciative notes, which it is a great pleasure to receive. I’ve made plenty of friends doing this job and look forward to a successful third year before the role must pass to someone else.
